Guest Article by Morgen Jahnke
I confess that I am something of a fan of the Swedish home furnishings store IKEA, having spent countless hours wandering its shiny showrooms in three different countries (Canada, the U.S., and France). As evidence of this, you need only stand in the middle of my apartment and look around; you can’t help but see an IKEA product anywhere you look.
Although some may decry its mass marketing approach, I like that there is a consistency to the IKEA shopping experience. Whether I visit a store in central France or the suburbs of Vancouver, I know that I will see the same kinds of products, laid out in the same way, according to the same floor plan. This sameness might bother me in other settings, but there is a quirky charm to the world of IKEA that counterbalances the monotony. From its amusing product names to [...]

General
The exact origin of this dance form is an actively debated subject among dance enthusiasts, especially given the limited academic research on the topic. Much of the research in this area has been done by dancers attempting to understand their dance’s origins. Many dancers subscribe to one or another of a number of theories regarding the origins of the form. Some of these theories are that it:
descended from dances in early Egypt
descended from a religious dance Temple Priestesses once practiced
had been a part of traditional birthing practices in the region(s) of origin,
had spread from the migrations of the Roma people and related groups.
Of the theories, the first explanation is rarely invoked, even with such high-status proponents as the Egyptian Dancer Doctor Mo Geddawi promoting it. Much of the support for this theory stems from the similarities between poses in Egyptian artwork and the modern dance moves.
The most [...]

The evolution of transportation [AX6549]Factual Factory42 min – 11 Sep 2006FACTUAL FACTORY
Factual Factory- Stock Footage, (black & white/no sound) Film about the evolution of transportation. With the railroad going from coast to coast- travel across the U.S. was possible in 4 days. With the invention of the airplane- this amount of time cut down to just 27 hours. To make it across the Atlantic now only takes five and a half days. The development of the aircraft has closed the gap between Europe and America. Wilbur and Orville Wright are the pioneers and creators of flight. On Dec. 17th 1903 Orville flew the first heavier-than-air-machine. Orville Wright won $30,000 dollars from the U.S Army for a sustained flight with a passenger. Aviation's progress is contributed to many individuals: A couple are examples are Louis Bleriot and Henri Farman. In 1909 Bleriot crossed the English channel in 37 minutes [...]
