Italian differs from English in that nouns are split into two genders, masculine and feminine. Also, English speakers will find that Italian has verb conjugations that are quite different depending on the subject of the sentence.

However, comforting points include the fact that Italian word order is very similar to word order in English. Italian is also a subject-verb-object language like English so English speakers will find it very easy to begin creating new sentences in Italian.

Due to the large number of Italian speakers and Italian’s popularity as a foreign language, there is a wide variety of language textbooks and programs for learners to choose from. Depending on your ultimate language goals for Italian, you may want to choose from a quick audio program before your vacation or a textbook series to take you to fluency.

If you decide to learn the beautiful Italian language, remember to make a serious commitment. Learning any foreign language can be a tough process but if you stick with it and make a consistent effort over a long period of time, you will continually improve your Italian abilities. Beijing, also known as Peking, is the seat of China’s politics. With a population of 17 million, it is the second largest city in China after Shanghai. The city is built with numerous railways, motorways, seaports and a modern airport to facilitate the movement of its citizens, visitors and the goods they produce. Travelling to the city has been made easier because of these developments.

As an old city hosting many significant tourist attractions, she always gives the traveler a sense of awe. The coexistence of the new and the old add to this great feeling. There are three permanent exhibitions in the museum. The first, entitled “Ancient Capital: Chapter on the History and Culture of Beijing” shows the intricacies of art, dance, architecture, trade, commerce and transportation of the early Chinese when ruled by the emperor.

The second exhibition, dubbed “Ancient Capital: Urban Construction” emphasizes the movement from the old to the new world. It also highlights the adoption of new-age technologies which brought the nation to its present state. China’s urbanization is also included in this set.

The last exhibition, known as the “Stories of the Capital City – Old Beijing Folk-customs” portrays the importance of folklores and folkways in Chinese life. Also, the means to find and maintain luck and their relationship to a Supreme Being are also explained here.

Aside from these portrayals, the museum also functions as a reception hall, cultural heritage storehouse, conference hall, and a digital movie hall where a gigantic screen with the latest technology are installed to display high-definition films. The facts and figures of the United Nations – World Tourism Organization in 2008 have shown that the People’s Republic of China placed fourth as the country where tourists frequently visit. It also helped sustain the country’s economic and cultural progress, safeguarded the Silk Route and secured the spread of information and transportation. China’s foremost emperor, Qin Shi Huang, ordered the construction of the wall and the succeeding rulers of the Ming dynasty sustained and extended the wall to where it is today.

The Great Wall is not just a wall. Throughout its stretch, defensive structures can be seen such as forts, passes and beacon towers which were once used to house soldiers, store grain and weapons and transmit military information.

Although the Great Wall lasts more than a lifetime and can be treasured throughout the year, the best time to have ones’ vacation to the place is during spring and autumn, primarily to avoid multitudes of people. In spring, one could see the flowers abloom with pastel colors and the lush greenery, creating an atmosphere of freshness. In the winter, when it is glacial, the surrounding terrains and the wall itself are blanketed with snow, making it the perfect time for one to see the entirety of the wall. From Beijing, a 65-minute bus drive will get you to Badaling, which is the most accessible site. Other sites are Mutianyu and Jinshanling. The itineraries of Beijing hotels make it sure that the tourists will not find it difficult to travel to the place.

The Great Wall of China is one of mankind’s best achievements. My story: I had a challenge. I had to move to Mexico for my health and retire. Sure, I spoke English, a few words of French from high school, about 12 words of Spanish which might wind me up in fight or worse in a Mexxican jail, yeah – mostly curse words.I was in trouble and when I arrived in Mexico, I needed help.

Luckily, I met Reuben Varela, a well known Restauranteur at the Balneario Hot Springs in San Juan Cosala, Jalisco, Mexico and Gerardo Tolentino, an English teacher who was teaching 1st year English.

Reuben pushed me to find ways of studying and practicing Spanish, and Gerardo help me create the Gringo Guide. I was the gringo — and I definitely had to have a guide to get me through the experience of living here in Mexico.

We searched the internet, and books on Spanish, and listened to conversations in the English speaking sections of restaurants in Ajijic and San Miguel de Allende where most of the gringos hang out.

We talked to Americans and Canadians in Mexico and asked them what they needed, and we listened to what they asked of the waiters, restaurant owners, etc. Later, then Gerardo accompanied me to doctors and we went to travel through Mexico.

By the time we were finished, so was the book and that I had part of it recorded so that pronunciation would be no problem for anyone to learn. The book was finished and put up on our educational site at …. speedread.org.

If you want to learn Spanish free, you simply need to practice your pronunciation. It might seem demanding at first, but honestly learning any language can be difficult; all languages use various pronunciation keys to string sounds together to form words.

Spanish is no different, but when you consider how many exceptions to the rule there are in English, the Spanish language and its emphasis on phonetics is actually fairly simple.

Spanish Vowels And How They Sound

Spanish vowels are mostly letters are the same as in English, but the way they are pronounced is different. For instance, the letter “A” is voiced “uh” in Spanish, and “e” becomes an “ay” sound. “I” changes to a long “e” sound, and “u” is pronounced with an “ooh.” There’s only one vowel that keeps the same sound in English, and that’s “o,” as in “oh.”

As an example, let’s take a look at a sentence in Spanish and work it out. For our example, we’ll use the simple sentence “I like to eat the fried chicken.”

Me gusta comer el queso.

“Me gusta” are the first two words, which are pronounced “May Goose-toe” and it means “I like.” The following word, “comer,” is spoken as “koh-mare” and it means “to eat.” Finally, “el queso” means “the cheese” and it is pronounced “el kay-soh.”

The Sound Of Spanish Consonants

Consonants in Spanish take a backseat to the vowels, much like they do in English, but even so there are more rules to watch out for here than before, and even a couple extra “letters” come into play. The first, “ch,” is pronounced just as they would be in English.

The letter “c” becomes an “s” sound when used in front of an “e” or “i,” for instance the word “cero,” or the Spanish version of the English word “zero.” A “g” in front of an “e” or “i” produces the “ch” sound, but if it’s used anywhere else it represents a hard English “g” sound, as in “go.”

More trouble makes itself known with the letter “z,” which brings about a “th” sound like in the word “with.” Any “h” in the Spanish language is always silent. The “ll” is another sound, used very commonly in Spanish, and it sounds very much like the hard “y” sound of “you.” An example of the “ll” letter is “llamar,” which sounds like “ya-MAR.”

A tilde (~) makes frequent appearances in Spanish as well, such as in the word “el nio.” This word imitates that “ll” sound and makes the word sound like “el neen-yo.” These sounds make up 90% of the sounds used in the Spanish language, so by practicing these you’ll be able to say just about anything you would like to.

This article won’t tell you everything you need to know to speak fluent Spanish or even prepare you to visit some Spanish speaking friends, but by going over the sounds here you can give yourself a good base to help you learn Spanish free.

One would be “qu,” which makes a nice “k” sound. Any “r” should be rolled off the tongue if you are capable of dong so. And the “y” letter is pronounced like its English counterpart, except that when it’s alone it becomes an “eee” sound.

The People’s Republic of China, the largest country in terms of population, has a long-standing and ever-growing culture and tradition which is borne throughout its 5,000-year history. During this time, a number of improvements in their culture were made. Architecture is one of these notable changes.

The Forbidden City, one of China’s most sought after man-made wonders, was the Chinese imperial palace of the Ming down to the Qing dynasty. Since the spot is centrally-located, many hotels in Beijing abound, making it more practical for tourists to include this site in their daily itineraries.

As the world’s most expansive and existing palace complex at 72 hectares, the Forbidden City consists of 980 buildings and houses a wide-ranging collection of art pieces and valued objects from numerous dynasties. A tourist on the outside will notice elevated walls made from earth materials covered with baked bricks. These walls stood as fortresses against invaders from other places. Aside from this, the towers at each of the four city corners, which were used as lookouts, were and still are the most noticeable vanguards of the palace to the locals.

As one enters the city, he will find that it is subdivided into two: the Outer court, mainly used for ceremonial purposes and the Inner court, where the emperor and his family and servants resided.

In the Outer Court, one could see the Gate of Supreme Harmony. After passing this, he will be greeted by the Hall of Supreme Harmony, a grand structure built above three stone bases and surrounded by bronze incense burners. This was the place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties hosted their enthronement and wedding ceremonies. Next is the Hall of Central Harmony, a smaller hall used by the emperor to prepare and rest before and during ceremonies. Then there is the Hall of Preserving Harmony which was used for imperial activities.

In the inner court, one will be enthralled by the sight of a double-eaved building, the Palace of Heavenly Purity. It was once the emperor’s audience hall where he received dignitaries from foreign lands. A walk further would lead one to The Palace of Earthly Tranquility, which was the empress’ residence.

After touring the complex, one could refresh himself in the Imperial gardens which are situated outside the walls. Some notable parks include the Jingshan Park and the Zhongnanhai. Blooming and sweet-smelling flowers, placid lakes, amazing fountains and lush trees will rejuvenate ones’ tired senses.

For collectors who want to treasure their experience, they can buy souvenir items which are found as they exit the city’s gate. Different merchandise ranging from apparel to miniature models will remind them of their trip. Finally, as the day ends, it is now time to relax in one of the good hotels in Beijing to pamper oneself and be ready for what’s in store the next day.

China has been exporting tea to 90% of the world’s market. Chinese teas are known for their superior quality especially when it comes to taste, texture, and flavour. Among the most commonly consumed beverages, tea ranks first amongst others. Chinese teas are best served with Chinese tea sets since they create a synergistic effect that enhances the experience.

Tea is known by many names. In Russia “cha’i” is the vernacular name of tea, it is pronounced as “chaye” by the locals. The Philippines and China shared the same pronunciation of tea although they may not have the same spelling since it’s spelled as “tsa-a” in the Philippines and “cha” in China.

It was only after the 17th and 18th century that Americans and Europeans were able to appreciate tea. Japan started its passion for tea after the 6th century. People around the world started enjoying their teas sometime in their lives, but there is no question that the passion for tea started in China, specifically a small town called Yixing.

Teas can be classified in different ways, but the commonly used classification is on how they are made.

1. Green tea: The only variety of tea that can keep its natural color even after brewing is the green tea. Green teas that yield the perfect tea leaves are the following: Longjing tea of Zhejiang, Maofeng from the mountains of Anhui, and Biluochun of the Jiangsu province.

2. Black tea: Black tea or “red tea” is the only type of tea that is fermented before it is baked. The tea leaves that work best with this class of teas are: Qihong of Anhui, Dianhong of Yunnan, and Suhong of Jiangsu.

3. Wulong tea: A wulong tea is a special mix of tea that comprises of half of the green tea and half of the black tea. This type of tea is mostly popular in the south-eastern parts of China that includes Fujian, Guandong, and Taiwan.

4. Compressed tea: “brick teas”, as what most people would call them, are distinguished by their unique shape. They are created in such a way that they can easily be used by consumers. The Hubei, Yunnan, Hunan, and Sichuan provinces supply most of these compressed teas.

5. Scented teas: Scented teas are popular because of their aroma. Magnolia and Jasmine flower extracts are the used in conjunction with tea to create an exotic aroma while adding a unique twist to the flavour.

When serving teas at afternoon tea gatherings and formal tea parties, it is proper that tea sets be used with tea. Tea sets are made of high quality porcelain, bone china, or silver, they are to be attractive as much as they are durable.

China is believed to be the cradle of tea. Historically, Chinese tea sets such as the Yixing clay pots are used to brew tea and serve it to the guess as soon as it is in the right temperature. The Yixing tea set is named after a Chinese town of Jiagsu province where tea was first brewed.

Assessing the quality of a tea set may post a challenge for most people, but it is easy than what most people think. The easiest way to check its quality is to tap two pots together. If a metallic sound can be heard, then we can be assured of its quality.

Another way of assessing the quality of a tea pot is to fill it with water until the water touches its rim. To see if the pot is made of high quality material, smooth flowing water should be seen when pouring the pot. Do not forget to close the lead before pouring the water since pressure inside the pot is needed to properly assess it.

The Yixing tea pots are also known for their ability to retain the flavour of tea. When a tea is brewed using the Yixing pot for a long period of time, a coating is created, and this coating preserves the natural flavour of tea. Washing the pot with soap will wash away the coating, this is the reason why these types of teapots should only be washed with water and air dried.

It is undeniable that tea has become a part of life for most people. Teas can be brought in a variety of mixes and flavours. Most teas taste best when they are served in their appropriate tea sets. Chinese tea sets, specifically the Yixing clay pots, are best with Chinese teas since they do not only preserve the flavour of tea, but the tradition of Chinese tea as well.

Considered as the largest palace in the world, The Forbidden City, or known locally by the name Gugong or Zinjincheng, has an area that covers at total of 720,000 square meters or 0.3 square miles of land. There are four gates that connect this complex to the outside world. The Tiananmen Gate, strategically located at the southern tip of the complex, is the main gate for the palace.

After entering the main gate, there will be another gate, the Meridian or Interior Gate, that will lead you to the midst of the complex. Beyond this interior gate, is a colossal plaza that leads to the Gate of Supreme Harmony.

This Imperial Court of Harmony has two divisions to it: There is an inner court that serves as a living quarter for both the emperor and his subordinates, and another court, dubbed as the outer court; that contains the Hall of Supreme Harmony, China’s larges wooden structure to date.

The Hall of Supreme Harmony played a very important role in helping China preserve its culture and tradition, and this is also the hall where China’s most important events occurred, from changing a Kings, to celebrating imperial marriages.

The hall is surrounded with different symbols and structures, but the most prominent of them all is the dragon. Dragons are considered to be the prime symbol of China’s power and supremacy. Beyond this hall is another structure, The Midway Hall of Harmony, this hall is known by many as the hall where the emperor gets to show himself to the public for some political reasons.

The hall that houses the sovereign, his concubines and eunuch, the political advisers to the royal family is known as the Hall of Heavenly Purity. To guarantee that the king’s position will not be threatened, the eunuch’s testicles are said to be cut off in order for them not to produce children. The Hall of Heavenly Purity became exclusive for the emperor alone at some stage of the Ming Dynasty. Separated by the Hall of Union, the Empress, lived in the Palace of Tranquility.

Finally, we go to the Imperial Garden where we can find the Palace of Tranquil Longevity and the Hall of Mental Cultivation. The Imperial Garden houses the most staggering relics and artifacts that are astonishing and alluring, even the landscape proves that China is true to its passion for excellence.

China, without a doubt, has secured a very special place in history. She has pioneered most of the world’s technology and techniques. Today, China is inviting both foreigners and locals to a unique and exciting experience. The amazing blend of culture, history, and technology brings a new flavor to the table. Not every airline can boast a history like British Airways’. This airline’s history is so storied, in fact, the British Airways Archive and Museum Collection, established at the company’s inceptions, preserves the history of British Airways and its predecessor companies. Read on for highlights:

On 25 August’19 Aircraft Transport and Travel Limited, a company forerunner, launched the first daily scheduled international flight from London to Paris. The plane, a single-engine de Havilland DH4A biplane took off from Hundslow Heath, not far from today’s Heathrow International. Two-and- a-half hours later, the plane landed in Le Bourget, delivering its one passenger and cargo of newspapers, Devonshire cream and grouse. Soon after, two other airways began flights to Paris and Brussels. In these pioneering days, companies struggled with few passengers, high fares and less-than-predictable flights.

Just five years later, Britain’s four fledgling airlines merged to form Imperial Airways Limited. Passengers’ international flight choices included Paris, Brussels, Basle, Cologne and Zurich. Over the next 10 years, flights to India, the Arabian Gulf, Egypt, South Africa, Singapore, West Africa and Australia were introduced along with the addition of the Croydon airport. In’35, several smaller air transport companies merged to form British Airways Limited operating out of Gatwick airport. British Airways Limited became Imperial Airways Limited’s main UK competitor for European flights. In response to a governmental review, the two airlines were nationalized in’39 to form British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC).

The airline industry experienced vast changes after World War II. BOAC continued its international flights while continental European and domestic flights were handled by a new airline, British European Airways (BEA). BOAC was offering flights to New York, Japan, Chicago and the U.S. West Coast by’57. This, coupled with BEA’s network of domestic destinations put these two airlines at the forefront of scheduled passenger and cargo services in the UK.

BOAC led the world into the jet era in the’50s. Its first jet plane flight in’52, using a Comet 1 flying to Johannesburg, cut the previous flight time in half. BOAC also had the distinction of the first jet transatlantic with two Comet 4s flying simultaneously from London and New York. Other developments during this era: BEA completed the first automatic landing of a scheduled flight, ushering in all-weather operations. BEA met the demand of the mass holiday package industry by launching its own charter airline, BEA Airtours.

Beginning in’60, several governmental actions led to the creation and eventual merging of Britain’s airlines into British Airways in’74. Though these actions initially caused financial and industrial upheaval, the new airline eventually recovered and employed its predecessors’ pioneering spirit with the world’s first supersonic passenger service with Concorde in’76.

British Airways struggled financially under government control until it was privatized in’87. Later that year, British Airways merged with Caldonian.

Today, British Airways is UK’s largest international airline offering flights to more than 550 destinations. Passengers can chose from first class, business class, premium economy class and economy class. Services have come a long way since that first flight. British Airways offers food services and a selection of entertainment options including movies, TV, games, and music. Passengers can even shop in the on-board Highlife shop.
